Hi folks! Sorry I've been away for a bit.
I've subscribed
to the "Eat This, Not That" e-mail updates, and just
recently received
one that struck close to home.
It's a section of
their site listing the "Best and Worst Cereals" to eat.
With a teenaged
son and two pre-pubescent girls in the house, we go
through literally
boxes of cereal a week. My husband and I also eat
cereal pretty
much every morning.
While I wish the
kids would eat All-Bran willingly (with enthusiasm), the
reality is that's
NEVER going to happen. So I usually seek to buy
them cereals that
contain some fiber, and contain relatively few sugars,
artifical flavors
and colors.
So, when this
list came out, I rushed to see where our favorite cereals
landed:
Interestingly,
the list goes from #24, which is the best cereal, to #1, which is the
worst. Kind of counter-intuitive, in my opinion.
Our favorite
Maple and Brown Sugar Mini-Wheats was #12, halfway on
the list. So
we'll keep eating it. As for the kids, I think Kix and
Cheerios
are their best
bets.
You may be
surprised at some of the cereals normally touted as "healthy".
Their sugar
content is not only un-healthy, but will cause you to gain
weight instead of lose weight.
If you have any
favorite cereals you've discovered that are (or aren't) on
the list, write
to me at cate AT realpeopledontdiet.com and let me know.
(I've recently
found "Mom's Best" natural cereals at Wal-Mart
supercenters. My kids like the Toasted Cinnamon Squares. The
cereals are inexpensive, and pretty healthy, to boot.)

Before I sign
off, I just wanted to make note of a special product/service
that I
recommended at the top of this newsletter.
You might wonder
why I talk about "non-food" items such as filing
Well, the reason
is this: most people overeat due to stress. Being
un-
organized is a
huge source of stress, especially when we're all busier
than
ever. Remove a source of stress, and you help yourself do a
better
job of improving
your di et and overall heal th.
(Plus, I just
like telling others about stuff that works!)
Many of you are
familiar with Maria Gracia and her organizing website, as
she is a fan of
"Real People Don't Diet", and sent some of you over to meet
me after
recommending my book in her own newsletter.
Maria is a true
gem, and you can't go wrong with any of her products or advice.
I urge you to try
her filing system today:
And when you're
done filing, treat yourself to a yummy dessert! Ha!
